인도네시아 발리의 가장 활기찬 지역으로 알려진 Seminyak에 새로운 형태의 복합외식공간이 문을 열었다.
이 지역에서 손꼽히는 요리사 중 한명인 Joel Sijin Lim의 계획 하에 ‘32do’, ‘Younghee’, ‘SJ2.0’ 이라는 이름의 카페, 레스토랑, 칵테일바 등으로 구성된 이 프로젝트는 그의 뿌리인 한국의 정서와 인도네시아의 환경적 맥락을 시각, 미각적 경험에 담는 것을 목표로 하였다. 인도네시아 소재의 건축집단인 Studio Terasu, FFFAAARRR과 한국의 디자인스튜디오 stof가 호흡을 맞췄으며, 전체 공간 중 카페 32do와 레스토랑 Younghee가 일부 먼저 공개되었다.
A new multi-dining space has opened in Seminyak, one of the most vibrant areas in Bali, Indonesia. Under the planning of notable chef Joel Sijin Lim, this project comprises a café, restaurant, and cocktail bar named '32do,' 'Younghee,' and 'SJ2.0.' The aim is to capture the essence of his Korean roots and the Indonesian environment through visual and gustatory experiences. The project was a collaboration between Indonesian architectural firms Studio Terasu and FFFAAARRR, and Korean design studio stof. The café 32do and the restaurant Younghee are the first parts of this project to be unveiled.
Stof 는 “상대적인 새로움”이라는 개념을 기반으로, 인도네시아에서 경험하는 동아시아의 사계절 풍경(이국적 경험)과 이에 따라 끊임없이 변화하는 물의 형태를 통해 이 섬에서 너무나 친숙한 물질이 역설적으로 새롭게 느껴지는 경험을 공간에 담음으로써 브랜드가 제공하고자 하는 감각의 확장을 표현하고자 하였다.
각기 다른 서비스가 제공되는 공간들은 [여름의 장마], [가을 연못], [겨울의 얼음동굴] 등 봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울 각 계절의 이미지를 투영하고 있어 사계절의 순환을 공간을 통해 체험하고, 전체의 공간을 하나의 여정으로 연결지어 인지할 수 있다.
Based on the concept of “relative novelty,” stof seeks to express the sensory expansion that the brand offers by incorporating East Asia's four seasonal landscapes (an exotic experience in Indonesia) and the constantly changing forms of water, a familiar element on this island, making it feel new. Each space offering different services reflects the images of the four seasons - [summer monsoon], [autumn pond], [winter ice cave] - allowing visitors to experience the cycle of the seasons and perceive the entire journey as one cohesive experience.
‘32do’를 지나 건물 외부의 길을 따라 걷다 보면 여러 그루의 나무들 너머로 ‘Younghee’의 모습을 볼 수 있다. 길의 끝에 있는 작은 리셉션은 방문객이 내부로 진입 전 직원의 환대를 통해 새로운 공간의 시작을 느낄 수 있도록 하였으며, 그 옆 hammered copper로 만들어진 문을 지나면 붉게 물든 가을의 공간이 펼쳐진다. 이 공간은 가을 연못 속에서 보는 모습을 상상하며 디자인된 공간으로, 차분한 분위기 속 따뜻한 환대와 음식, 요리사들과의 소통을 위한 곳이다.
Walking past “32do” and along the exterior pathway of the building, “Younghee” gradually reveals itself beyond a cluster of trees. A small reception desk positioned at the end of the path allows visitors to feel welcomed before entering, marking the beginning of a new spatial experience. Beyond the hammered-copper door beside it unfolds a space tinted with the deep colors of autumn. Conceived as if looking into an autumn pond, this space is designed for warm hospitality, dining, and intimate interaction with the chefs—offering a sense of quietness without ever feeling distant.
곡선의 창을 따라 배치된 좌석은 낮은 층고의 실내에서도 정적이지만은 않은 다양한 관계의 형성을 의도하고 있다. 의자의 등받이와 테이블 상판에 적용된 버터플라이 조인트는 핸드크래프트에서 느낄 수 있는 장인의 손길, 수면에 떠있는 나뭇잎들에서 영감을 받은 구리로 만들어진 나뭇잎 모듈과 대나무 모양의 파티션은 상상 속 풍경에 몰입을 도와준다. 또한 한국에서 공수한 붉은 톤의 전통 린넨소재 패브릭과 현지에서 깎아낸 석재 벽 위로 새어 들어오는 채광은 계절의 변화를 시적으로 표현하고 있다.
Seating arranged along the curved window encourages subtle yet diverse relationships to form even within a lower ceiling height. Butterfly joints embedded in the chair backs and tabletops reflect fine craftsmanship, while copper leaf modules inspired by floating leaves and bamboo-shaped partitions help immerse guests into the imagined scenery. The warm glow cast over the red-toned traditional Korean linen and the stone wall carved locally expresses the changing season in a poetic light.
