삼청동에 위치한 레스토랑 산수인은 전통 한옥의 공간적 특징을 현대적으로 해석하여, 자연과 계절의 흐름을 담아내는 공간을 선보였다.
Located in Samcheong-dong, the restaurant Sansooin presents a space that reinterprets the spatial characteristics of traditional hanok in a contemporary way, capturing the flow of nature and the seasons.
한옥이 지닌 가장 큰 특징인 ‘내외부 경계의 모호함’에서 출발한 이번 프로젝트는, 외부의 풍경을 실내로 끌어들이는 ‘차경’의 개념을 적극적으로 적용했다. 창과 중정을 통해 드러나는 풍경은 매번 달라지는 계절의 장면을 담아내며, 방문객에게 새로운 경험을 제공한다. 공간의 구조와 가구는 한옥의 미감을 외형적으로 차용하고 존중, 균형, 절제라는 태도를 담아냈다. 이는 단순한 디자인을 넘어, 산수인이 추구하는 브랜드 가치와 맞닿아 있다.
This project began with one of the most distinctive features of hanok—the ambiguity between interior and exterior boundaries. By actively applying the concept of chagyeong (borrowed scenery), the exterior landscape is drawn indoors. The views revealed through windows and courtyards capture ever-changing seasonal scenes, offering visitors a fresh experience. The structure and furniture borrow the aesthetics of hanok while embodying attitudes of respect, balance, and restraint. This goes beyond simple design, aligning with the core brand values that Sansuin seeks to uphold.
산수인은 한국의 제철 식재료를 활용해 계절의 흐름에 맞는 메뉴를 선보인다. “계절을 거스르지 않는 음식”이라는 철학을 기반으로, 신선한 재료를 바탕으로 한 정성 어린 요리를 제공한다. 공간은 단순히 원형을 복원하는 데 그치지 않고, 경계의 공유를 통해 계절과 절기를 직접적으로 경험할 수 있는 무대로 설계되었다. 서까래, 기둥, 비치합판, 미색 도장 등 소박한 재료와 선적인 프레임을 활용해 과장되지 않은 경계와 여백의 이미지를 담아냈다. 빛이 드나드는 순간마다 창은 새로운 장면을 드러내며, 내부와 외부를 겹겹이 이어주는 프레임이 된다.
Sansuin also presents seasonal menus crafted with local Korean ingredients. Guided by the philosophy of “food that does not go against the seasons,” the restaurant serves heartfelt dishes based on fresh produce. The space is not limited to restoring form but is designed as a stage where guests can directly experience the rhythm of the seasons through shared boundaries. Exposed rafters, columns, plywood, and off-white finishes create an unembellished atmosphere, capturing subtle images of boundaries and emptiness. With every passage of light, the windows reveal new scenes, becoming frames that layer together the interior and exterior.
가장 안쪽에는 작은 나무를 식재해 계절의 변화를 가까이에서 느낄 수 있도록 했으며, 천창을 통해 들어오는 빛은 내부 풍경을 더욱 입체적으로 만든다. 더 나아가 산수인의 공간은 업무 공간과도 긴밀히 연계된다. 낮은 레벨의 레스토랑과 높은 레벨의 오피스는 서로의 풍경이 되어 하나의 장면을 완성하고, 내부의 창을 통해 마주하는 서로의 공간은 일상과 업무, 식사와 교류를 자연스럽게 이어주는 장치가 된다. 이를 통해 사용자는 식사와 함께 자연의 흐름을 오감으로 경험하고, 일상과 업무 중 외부의 풍경까지 산수인의 풍경으로 받아들이는 체험을 하게 된다.
At the heart of the space, a small tree is planted, allowing guests to feel the changes of the seasons up close, while skylights introduce light that makes the interior more three-dimensional. Moreover, Sansuin’s space is closely connected to workspaces. The lower-level restaurant and the upper-level office form each other’s scenery, completing a unified composition. Through windows, the two areas face one another, naturally linking daily life and work, dining and interaction. Guests experience not only meals but also the flow of nature through all senses, while external landscapes become part of Sansuin’s own scenery.
산수인이 제안하는 경험은 단순한 식사에 머물지 않는다. 제철 식재료로 완성된 요리를 통해 자연과 계절감을 맛으로 느끼고, 공간을 가득 채운 빛과 프레임 속 풍경을 통해 한옥의 경계를 새롭게 경험한다. 방문객은 이곳에서 자연과 교감하며, 일상 속에서 잊기 쉬운 계절의 흐름을 몸소 경험하는 특별한 시간을 갖게 된다.
The experience offered by Sansuin extends far beyond dining. Through seasonal ingredients, guests savor the taste of nature and the rhythm of time. Surrounded by light and framed views, they encounter hanok’s boundaries in a renewed way. Here, visitors engage in a dialogue with nature and enjoy a special moment of directly sensing the flow of the seasons often forgotten in everyday life.
