재료 전략은 BKID의 일하는 방식을 정확히 닮았다. 자작합판(birch plywood)과 우븐 비닐 바닥재는 일상적 사용성을 높이고, 리놀륨 상판은 따뜻한 촉감을 더한다. 스테인리스 주방 벽·가구는 위생과 유지 보수의 효율을, 천연 코르크 보드는 흡음과 아이디어 핀업의 기능을 맡는다. 여기에 로우 알루미늄, 우드울 보드, 옐로 스톤과 블랙 스톤 같은 상반된 물성들이 결합해 ‘러프함과 정밀함’의 공존을 이룬다. 동일한 조형 규율 안에서도 공간의 목적에 따라 다른 재료가 등장하고, 그 차이가 곧 프로그램의 성격을 설명한다.
The material strategy closely reflects BKID’s way of working. Birch plywood and woven vinyl flooring enhance everyday usability, while linoleum surfaces bring warmth to tactile engagement. Stainless-steel walls and millwork in the kitchen ensure hygiene and durability, and natural cork panels support both sound absorption and pin-up needs. In contrast, raw aluminum, wood-wool boards, and stones in yellow and black introduce a coexistence of roughness and precision. Within a unified geometric order, different materials appear according to the space’s purpose—allowing material differences to articulate the character of each program.
BKID 사옥의 핵심은 ‘같은 형식–다른 물성–하나의 태도’라는 역설적 균형이다. 동일한 조형 질서 위에 상이한 재료와 사용 방식을 얹어, 팀이 수행하는 다양한 프로젝트의 스펙트럼을 공간적으로 번역한다. 이 방식은 BKID가 제품 디자인에서 실험하는 수많은 변수—사용성, 공정, CMF, 감성—를 물성의 언어로 치환한 결과이며, 방문자는 층과 공간을 이동하는 동안 그들의 사고과정과 작업방식을 체감하게 된다. 결국 이 사옥은 형식이 아니라 아이디어에서 시작하는 BKID의 정체성을 건축과 인테리어의 합주로 증명한다.
The essence of the BKID headquarters lies in its paradoxical balance of “same form – different materiality – one attitude.” Different materials and modes of use are layered upon a shared design discipline, spatially translating the wide spectrum of projects the team undertakes. This approach transforms countless variables they experiment with in product design—usability, process, CMF, emotion—into the language of materiality. As visitors move between floors and programs, they perceive BKID’s thinking and working process. Ultimately, this building validates an identity rooted not in form but in ideas, orchestrated through the harmony of architecture and interior design.
